Victorinox 12-Inch Granton Edge Slicing Knife with Fibrox HandleReviewsI like my knives long. This is longest one I could find. Great for carving a roast or ham or flank steak. Holds a good edge. Glad I bought it. Don't think that a great knife has to cost big bucks ! Purchased this knife on the recommendation of "America's test kitchen" and it cuts through big peices of meat like butter. Extremely satisfied ! It may seem strange to buy a fairly expensive specialty knife when we are cutting back and buying cheaper cuts of meat, but this knife has worked out perfect. I can cut paper thin, cross-grain slices like I'm slicing through butter, turning those tough but flavorful cuts into a delicious meal or to go on top of salads. Didn't pick this up until after the holidays, but thinking about cooking a large turkey breast just to test it out! This is a wonderful knife at a bargain price. Readers of Cooks Illustrated will recognize this knife as one of their top rated knives, and there's good reason. This knife is the perfect length for slicing roasts, hams, etc, with a single stroke. It comes with a nice edge right out of the box, and it holds its edge well. This knife is proof that you _can_ make a great stamped-steel knife (even if most manufacturers don't). Exactly what I ordered with quick & efficient service. Would deal with them again without hesitation Thanks Average Rating:![]() |

A Granton, or kullenschiff edge has hollowed out grooves on the side. These fill with the fat and juices of the meat being sliced, allowing for thin even cuts without tearing or shredding the meat. R. H... |

Black and Decker Home Slice Right Electric Knife EK700ReviewsI've been using this knife for almost a year now. It still works like a charm even after hundreds of uses. I do a lot of barbecue from Tri-tips to whole chickens to... The blades are still sharp and require little effort to cut through even chicken bones. The blades are easily detached with wet/dirty hands while in the process of cooking or doing dishes and can be placed in the dishwasher utensil carriage with no problems. I would have like a foot or two more on the cord since the one it came with limits me to a certain section of my kitchen counter. It's also a pretty loud knife for being so small. I bought this knife to replace a roughly 20 year old model which is the same design as this one. The blades lost their plastic blade guards, the blades weren't as sharp and I couldn't get new blades. This new knife is very noisy and not as easy to control as the old one. I like the offset blades but that is about the only thing I like about it. The old knife came with short blades as well as the normal long ones. The new EK700 only has long blades. Even though the little plastic blade guards have fallen off the old knife blades, I've gone back to using that knife. This purchase was not a success. This little number does what it is supposed to do and does it well. Ergonomically well designed and lives up to the expectations I had for it. Nice to have a simple but frequently used tool that is dependable and easy to use. I bought this knife last week and recently received it. I mainly use it for slicing my homemade bread. It doesn't even struggle with the thick crust. It is very sharp and powerful. Just what I was looking for in an electric knife. The low price is just a bonus. If I ever need another, I would buy this one again. Item received as described, fast shipping. Knife cuts great. I didn't use this for cutting turkey, I used it to cut the foam on my Pelican gun case. Worked great. Average Rating:![]() |

Pyrex Storage 18-Piece Round SetReviewsThese arrived very quickly and were packaged well. I gave this product 4/5 stars because of how tightly the lids fit. The first time getting the lids on the bowls is incredibly tough. Once on, I often have trouble getting the lids off. I guess this is good in that it prevents things from leaking, but I find it a bit frustrating when I can't get the lids off (or when I worry about spilling the contents as I fumble with the lid). After several weeks of use the lids seem to go on and come off much more easily, so in the long run it probably won't be an issue. I have been SO concerned about the dangers of plastic-leaching and assumed that there wasn't much to choose from in the way of glass storage containers and that it would be too expensive to buy, but I was wrong on both counts! I love the Pyrex glass storage ware. It is very thick, in my opinion, and the lids are very easy to get on if you start at one end and "smooth" your way around. My lids have all fit well. Also, the design of these lids makes them easier to clean. All the previous plastic container lids I've owned have had a very narrow opening on the underside edge where the container fits into the lid. These crevices can trap bits of food (usually sauces gone astray in my experience) and can be very difficult to clean. The Pyrex lids have a wide lip that can easily be wiped out. I haven't tried liquids in them yet to know about leakage, but I'm sold on them for carrying lunches, storing all kinds of cooked foods, raw vegetables, etc. in the refrigerator, and have put a bunch of them in the freezer also with lunches in them. They clean up in a SNAP (the round ones are easier to clean than the square one because of having no corners), and they seem very sturdy and well-made. The red lids are a little garish and overly bright in my opinion and are not truly red, so I much prefer the blue ones, but in the end it doesn't matter that much since they're just for food storage! I purchased 3 different sets of the Pyrex glass storage and love them all. A lot of them nest together to save space also, which helps in storing all of these! I've already gotten rid of the majority of my plastic ware, and I just got a new Pyrex set yesterday, so I'll be getting rid of more of the plastic now! The 4-cup size is great for ALL KINDS of things and is my very favorite lunch size, and the 2-cup containers are my next-most-used size after the 4-cup size. The 2-cup sizes are SO handy for so many things that I couldn't do without them. The 1-cup size is indispensable for when you need a tiny one! Some people sort of complain about the smaller sizes that are included in most of the sets, but I find the smaller sizes so useful for so many things that I couldn't do without them. Needless to say by this point, I'm thrilled that these are now available to buy! I love, love, love these bowls. I wanted some non-plastic bowls that could be used for food storage, freezing and microwaving, and these fit the bill. They are also very pretty (imo). They have clean, simple lines and fit in very well with my modern kitchen. I love them for serving, which I didn't expect. In regard to the perople who said they wished there were more large-sized bowls and fewer small sized... I ccan see wanting more large bowls, but I really do appreciate the larger ones, as well. I like to soak beans and then freeze them in small container for recipes, and the small bowls are perfect. I could see freezing things like basil for pesto, etc. They are the best bowls ever. Get them !!! The small ones are useless - wish they had all came in the medium and larger size - even larger. No use for the smaller ones. I just received my set of pyrex round bowls. This is my second set because I'm replacing all plastic. I'm glad I got them now, because the price just jumped $13 in one day. The tops are a bit challenging to put on at times, because they are so snug in fit. Also, they're made in the USA. Good product. Average Rating:![]() |

Carving out the Eyes of GodReviewsWhat more can I say that hasn't been said by anyone here already? I really like this album. I don't find it too raw, nor is it overly polished. It takes a good dose of positive lessons learned from Falgoust's other band Soilent Green (which is no bad thing given the bands depth of approach to making heavy metal!), and it has enough variety and dare I say melody to make it an absurdly good album. Goatwhore, to me, has come from being just another blackened black/death metal 'we are badder than bad' band to something more respectable by way of consistently good songwriting as experienced here with COtEoG. Not sure people will like it but I found that I had to compare it with Soilent Green's 'Inevitable Collapse in the Presence of Conviction' almost straightaway, with its hammer and nail thrashy delivery. These boys don't like choruses and they don't like mediocre expressions of anything either, which is a refreshing thing. The Celtic Frost homage can be picked up too and is refreshing to hear. My favourite song of them all for me has got to be the catchy title song COtEoG, but it's good from the get-go right through to the reflective end. Needless to say, I am basically finished with my heavy metal / death metal phase which has lasted me 5 or so years, and I have moved onto jazz, electronica and other forms of music. But I still really enjoy listening to this particular album. The only criticism I can find?.... is perhaps that they need a new subject matter, however it's a minor infraction for an album that even God will find Himself moving to. Goatwhore have exceeded my expectations about 1,000,000 times over! I've liked them in the past but had no idea that "Carving out the Eyes of God" would be so good. Start to finish every song destroys, my favorites being the title track, "Provoking the Ritual of Death", and the opener "Apocalyptic Havoc". If you like Celtic Frost, you WILL like this album the inspiration is there throughout (the singer even goes "OOH!" like Tom G. Warrior LOL). Again, every song rules its consistently excellent, something too few albums can claim to be nowadays. Don't expect black metal though, Tr00 kvlt black metal heads may be dissapointed in the good production and lack of keyboards/eerie sound effects LOL. i have been listening to and playing metal for over 25years which leaves me with quite a vast collection, so whenever amazon recommends me something i dont normally pay attention because i usually have whatever they are recommending. but on this occasion i noticed there was an album of a band i did not even know existed, this album was goatwhores-carving out the eyes of god. after 2secs of hearing the sample it was in the shopping cart and i was off to the checkout. what a brilliant piece of work! old school metal with a fresh new face. great lyrics and vocals, driving guitar riffs backed by some outstanding drum work all with a precise faceshredding production by the ever improving erik rutan. i cant wrap this album enough and have already purchased another of their earlier releases. i am over the moon to hear they are touring my home of australia with the mighty behemoth in april! BUY THIS ALBUM, IT DOMINATES!! Goatwhore you make me happy. Very happy! I love you. God bless Erik Rutan. this cd is awesome!!its all goatwhore and then some.the songs are all put together well and have a little more depth than the songs on other goatwhore cd's mainly because sammy(guitarist) finally decided to throw in guitar solos which fit perfectly.they keep it as black and heavy as usual except for the last song on the cd which has a clean tone intro that is both hypnotic and evil.vocals on this cd are also a little easier to understand and catchy."who needs a god, when you've got satan?". try forgetting that line..lol if your a goatwhore fan you already own this cd.if your thinking about buying it just do it.money well spent. Carving Desert CanyonsReviewsI was initially unimpressed by this album and the band, but upon repeated listening, I came to really enjoy them ... even went on to learn a little more about them. Im even more impressed to learn that they're so young. They sound much more experienced. Sure there are a few thing's I'd change about them: a bit less monotony, a bit more experimentation, their songs tend to sound too much alike for my tastes, but they're a really promising band. And, as music to just listen to, it actually makes me feel better. A great effort. I recommend it. I don't understand how people compare it to Liquid Tension Experiment, and they shouldn't. This band is great on its own. I like this. Very uplifting and fun instrumental album. The rythms really make you move, and the tone of the guitarists are amazing. The drummer's a beast also. Thanks for signing my earplug guy at the Dream Theater/prog nation concert on August 2nd in boston! I first encountered Scale the Summit when they opened for Dream Theater in Prog Nation. I was extremely impressed by their musicianship, but it seemed like there was way too much going on in their songs - I didn't really get it. But now I do! You have to listen a few times to let the intricacy of this music really sink in. Scale the Summit has really achieved something great here - instead of pointless noodling like prog/technical bands are apt to do, all of the vast quantities of notes on this record actually have a purpose and meaning in the song. The songs ebb and flow, have interesting little tangents, build up to epic refrains, go into headbanging grooves, and of course have lots of technical wizardry for those of us who geek out about that. But most importantly these songs have vision - Scale the Summit is saying something with their music. It sounds to me like they're channeling some of the grandiosity and complexity of nature. Maybe that's why its called Carving Desert Canyons? If you like epic, uplifting, relaxing, complex, heavy, powerful music you should give this band a chance! I... am... breathless. That was an incredibly beautiful and satisfying listening experience. Prosthetic Records is on a roll this year as far as finding amazing instrumentalists (these guys and Animals As Leaders). I don't know what is going on over there, but they need to keep it up. And Scale the Summit needs to write another record soon. Briefly put, you want to hear this record. It is poetry without words. Profound. Listen to it while taking a long scenic drive... you'll end up gaining a new perspective on life and what it means to be alive. I heard Scale The Summit at Dream Theater's Chicago 2009 show and these guys delivered a rock-solid performance that displays originality and tremendous drive. They are definitely fit for the honor of playing for Mike Portnoy's audience. To my ear Scale The Summit sounds like a cross between Liquid Tension Experiment and California Guitar Trio, punctuated with occasional reminders of Rush. But comparisons fall short, because even at this early stage they have clearly found their voice and it is distinctive. I purchased their CD at the concert last night and I'm listening to it for the third time today - not something I often do. The feeling they project is not so much that they take themselves seriously, but that they take their *musical task* seriously. Some may say that great prog rock is the domain of an older school of musicians, but this album is proof of a new generation with great chops and strong compositions. Excellent work, gentlemen. Sign Carving With Your RouterReviewsI really enjoy this DVD! It's fun to watch and puts you in mood to go in your workshop and get going. I like that you can actually see exactly how Jim Bartz makes relief carving. He could have spent more time covering engraved carving, but you will not be let down. Don't worry if you can't find specific software to make signs. I have been using windows power point and word pad to create fonts with ease. I find myself re-watching the dvd to learn more time and time again! This is an excellent source for the budding sign carver who just needs a little inside knowledge to get started. I built my own router base from 3/8" acrlic stock and went right to work. I couldn't get the drawing program to do what the video demonstrated but I found a way around that part and got the job done. The video is great, he goes through everything you need to know, slowly and in a way that is easy to follow. It is however kind of corny, the scenery is beautiful, but the music is not too great, but that doesn't matter, overall, it's a very helpful video. Alot of other reviews I have read say that "he never tells you what program he's using on the pc". Actually he does say you can use whatever program you like, ms paint, etc, it's only important to remember that when you print out the sign, you need to select, TILE or Poster, so that the actual size prints out in different pictures. I'm envious of his shop, he has everything, what a life, make signs for a living, my dream. I recommend the video completely, all the info is presented in an easily digested manner, he does not rush anything. If your interested in creating a beautiful sign, he shows you everything you need to make it. Buy this DVD, there is nothing else out there like it. Thanks Sign Carving with your router, it is a great CD and a excelent idea. I recomend. I designed my sign using the word processing program at the library, and found simple wildlife pictures in children's books to add pizzaz. I just followed the directions in the dvd and made a great sign for my Dad's birthday. My boyfriend can't believe I could do this! He is working on a design right now for his family's cabin. Chip Carving: With Wayne BartonReviewsAs all his other books on chip carving, this one teaches more about the craft. Excellent instructional video for novices like me. Plenty of detail on techniques of setup and carving. Even though my first attempts at duplicating the skillful strokes of Mr. Barton have been quite humbling, I recommend this DVD to see exactly how it's done by a pro. My grandson is using this gift to learn how to chip carve. No complaints from him yet. The Chip Carving video with Wayne Barton is photographed well, and Wayne clearly demonstrates the basic chip carving cuts, then follows those with clear examples of numerous carving styles and techniques. He explains each well, and the demonstrations show how each style is done, along with the finished product. A good video for learning what can be accomplished with chip carving; I'd highly recommend if you're interested in learning more about it and how to do it. I found this DVD to be an excellent introduction to the craft of chip carving. Instructions and demonstrations are clear, concise and very well photographed. Average Rating:![]() |

Beyond Wood - Portrait of an Artist - The Fine Art of Turned and Sculpted Wood - 6 DVDs all regionsReviewsI was looking forward to watching a woodworking technique, how-to collection. I quickly realized that this series is about the artists, not how-to. It would be on A&E rather than on the HGTV. However, there are a few techniques shown. It is interesting to note that different philosophies, create different approaches to the lathe, and produce very different work. Perhaps, this is the point of the series. I still found it very interesting, and enlightening, although it was different from my expectations. High production values! Received as a gift and what a great discovery of a not much talk about art form. Each DVD perfectly introduces different artists, if only I could aford their masterpieces. I really enjoy all the videos in this compilation and recommend it to anyone that loves the art of wood. It is a great gift! I found these CDs by accident and I was introduced to a beautiful art that seems to be known only by specialists when lots of pieces are already acquired by the museums all over the world. The masterpieces are shown very elegantly and you have plenty of time to appreciate their technical quality and their beauty. The artists are interviewed by a real connaissor in that special art and we see them at work. You learn, you discover and you fill up your eyes with beauty. Average Rating:![]() |

4 Pick Carvers Jewelers Polymer Clay Dentist Steel ToolsReviewsThese have served me well during my deployment to Iraq. They work so well on small corners and crevices that I've had 2 of them stolen out of my weapons cleaning kit bag! You could grind your screwdriver to a finer point than these. They appear to be re-ground from the original points they once had, or they were never Dental tools to begin with. Very disappointed! Pick Set, 12PcReviewsI like the variety of ends and possible uses. I do not like that they rust if not put away dry, and since I'm using them for clay work, that is an extra step in their up-keep that adds to my clean-up time. For the price, it's a good deal, but they may need to be replaced sooner than higher quality steel. This is actually a set of wax carving tools. However, they do exactly what I wanted them to, which is to clean mineral specimens. Shipping was amazingly fast and I'm happy with the product. I purchased this to use for creating designs in jewelers (casting) wax. Great selections and affordable. Comes in a cheap, pocketed plastic bag, so you may want to come up with another way to store these. All the tips were machined "clean" and sharp with no burrs, so when working with the tools the carvings were very precise. I have suggested these to other beginning jewelry creators as a great and inexpensive accessories to have at hand. the twelve piece set i recieved is pretty good. aside from some very minor burrs on a few tools, there is nothing bad to say. the set is really versatile in working on wax to make bronze art. or if used on modeling clay or plastalina they come in very handy. Gerber 22-47162 Fast Draw Spring Assisted Opening Stainless Steel Fine Edge KnifeReviewsPiece of junk in my opinion. The tip of the blade was rounded, the edge lasted a couple days, the locking mechanism is an insufferable POS and the "safety lock" inadvertently locks so when you pull the knife out you have to fumble with it to get it open. I had this knife for a few days and it ended up in a drawer. I bought the Kershaw Tanto Blur and it is 100 times the knife this one is for about $20 more. I would not recommend this knife. The Kershaw is American made and much higher quality. As far as I know, the Gerber is made in China and it is just about as good as you would expect from a Chinese made knife. The basic design of this knife is very good for right handed use. It is very fast and easy to open one handed, the cross hatched design is very nice, it is very easy to grip and it looks great. cons: my brother is a lefty, and he doesn't like this knife at all because it is hard to take the safety off and open the blade without putting the safety back on, it also doesn't clip into a left pocket very well and is more likely to open up in your pocket if it is carried on the left side. 4 stars overall would be 2 if I wanted to use this knife left handed. Also, this blade seems pretty sharp out of the box, and I know that the steel is very hard, but it doesn't cut very well for some reason. The only reason I can think of for this is that it has a noticeably concave grind on the edge which makes for a less durable edge. Hopefully, successive sharpening will re-profile the edge enough to fix this. Sometimes it was reasonably easy to open with the thumbstuds, and other times it wasn't. I would flip the lock back and forth to make sure it wasn't stuck, but I would still have intermittent problems. This is a very fine, well-made knife--the perfect size for carrying around in your pocket all day. My only complaint is that it's not so easy to open with one hand, and the locking button tends to stick a little when closing it. Probably the best we can hope for until Big Brother legalizes switch blades. you will not be disappointed with this folding knife,,,It will disappear in your pocket, on a belt sheath or if your careful it has the belt clip also...the blade, out of the box, is like a surgeons scalpel,,very, very sharp,,the spring assist will move the blade out in an instant..the knife has a small safety latch that will keep the blade locked in your pocket and locked open when in use...this knife gets 5 stars for sure....Bryan C in Idaho Average Rating:![]() |
